The Province of North Holland has awarded a subsidy to Drimble, the largest Dutch news aggregation platform, to combat fake news. Using advanced data analysis techniques, Drimble can identify and filter fake news, thereby curbing its spread.
The subsidy is a MIT feasibility grant of up to €20,000, which covers approximately 40% of the total project feasibility costs. Drimble will cover the rest from its own budget. This subsidy will contribute to the start of the project, with the further integration of AI becoming embedded in the company’s DNA and requiring multiple additional investments.
The fake news indicator will be rolled out step by step. The first change visitors to Drimble will notice is the introduction of a feedback button on each news article. Over the past 14 years, Drimble has collected around 150 million news articles.
With 2.7 million unique visitors, Drimble plans to launch a ‘premium’ model. In the future, users can sign up for personalized newsletters, access an ad-free experience, and even post their own articles. Additionally, people can respond to current news topics and share their opinions regarding pressing societal concerns.
